This is a cross-disciplinary programme with a global perspective. It provides students with evidence-based knowledge and a toolkit for conducting research, policy-making and fieldwork. The faculty has substantial experience from a range of disciplinary and geographical contexts and the diversity of the student body contributes to a stimulating learning environment. As one student expressed it: “The class and teaching are a microcosm of the global context we’ll face in work-life". Alumni are currently employed at a variety of institutions such as national health ministries, UNICEF, the WHO and various NGOs. In addition, many are researchers at top-ranked universities.

The Master of Science in Development Studies is an interdisciplinary social science Master’s programme focusing on problems of poverty and development. The objective of the programme is to provide you with background knowledge and practical skills to understand, assess and work in development-related fields, whether in direct poverty reduction or in other aspects of social, economic and institutional development. You will acquire a critical social science approach and will conduct your own research within the context of the Master’s thesis. Previous students have worked, for example, at embassies across the world, in governmental and non-governmental development agencies within the UN and the EU and in various NGOs, and in the private sector.

This programme connects fundamental research with its applications and integrates genetics, gene technology, cell biology, molecular biology and molecular biotechnology. The common basis is within molecular genetics, which is the discipline that explains how the information in the genes is expressed and how it can give rise to various traits in an organism. Emphasis is put on genetic mechanisms underlying disease, genetic mapping, molecular genetic techniques and diagnostic methods. Training in entrepreneurship and processes of innovation and commercialisation in the molecular biotechnology field provides a fundamental base for careers in biotechnology and the pharmaceutical industry. A majority of the graduated students continue with PhD studies, often within the biomedical research field.

This programme combines independent, design-led studios with theoretical and practical courses where students learn to find future-focused solutions to real-world issues in order to produce skilled graduates that can compete on a global level. Students can choose from two specialisations: Advanced Architectural Design or Spatial Experiment (Architecture and Digital Process).

Graduates find employment in areas such as purchasing, packaging, warehousing, inventory management, production, transportation and supply chain management at companies like IKEA, Tetra Pak, Alfa Laval, Kintetsu World Express and Jungheinrich.

The purpose of the programme is to give you broad and fundamental knowledge in the fields of physical and theoretical chemistry and chemical physics. Students develop advanced laboratory skills, a profound theoretical comprehension of fundamental mechanisms and a good understanding of practical applications. Special emphasis is given to an unbroken line of understanding, from quantum mechanical description of atoms and molecules to complex supramolecular structures, as well as their industrial and biological applications.

This programme enables you to gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills in complex issues within the areas of environmental sciences, physical geography and climate change. You will learn methods and techniques for measurements and collecting data. You will also gather substantial experience using different tools and methods commonly used by professionals for analysis of environmental data, together with skills for presenting and communicating results and conclusions for different audiences. After successfully completing the programme, you will be an expert within a number of different fields, such as climate and water issues, nature conservation and international development, and work with issues relating to assessment, analysis, management and development of the environment and natural resources in a long-term sustainable perspective.
